Pants? Who needs 'em.
Monday, September 28, 2009Today, I did something I swore I'd never, ever do...something I thought was disgusting and taboo.
I know people who have done it, and frankly, I've looked down on them. I've wondered how they could do such a tacky, tasteless thing. Don't they have any class? Any modesty?
More and more young girls seem to be doing it, which has distressed me to no end. In fact, it's becoming a pretty acceptable thing in society. At first I was shocked to see it become so common, but now, it's like every girl is doing it.
I thought it would be uncomfortable, or make my legs look big, or put parts of my body on display that I'd rather keep under wraps.
But here's the thing: once I tried it, I liked it!
It wasn't uncomfortable or awkward. It felt gooooood. And ladies, if you just relax, let go of your inhibitions, and go with it, you'll probably like it too. And your boyfriend will LOVE it.
Not only did I do it once, but twice. TWICE! I'm kind of sad I didn't do it before.
Wait for it...
...
I bought tights. The kind that substitute for pants.
TWO PAIRS!
I promise to only wear them with long shirts and sweaterdresses. I will not let my ass hang out. I won't wear them with hootchie boots or in inappropriate situations, i.e. a client meeting, and I won't wear any leopard prints or neon colours or otherwise ridiculous versions.
But lemme tell you, Lindsay and the Olsen twins and whoever else have the right idea. Even in the changing room, when I realized how comfortable they were, I had to grab a second pair. They'll be perfect for traveling overseas (comfy, compact, easy to pack) plus they're cheap. I'm excited for the weekend when I can wear my new tights with my flat boots and a nice soft sweater. I like outfits that are easy to run around in and affordable, but don't make me look like a bag lady, and tights will certainly fit the bill.
The moral of today's story: ease out of your comfort zone and at least try on a new look you might not normally consider. You just may get a pleasant surprise!

I believe Helena Christensen (one of the original 'super models') originally thought of this concept in the early 90's... just a bit of history for you! LOL. The ones with lace around the ankles can be nice too under summer dresses... ;p
ReplyDeletehaha, you sound like me when I discovered capris/ cropped pants (which I previously referred to as "highwaters")
ReplyDelete@Amanda I think the lace-bottomed ones were cool when I was in elementary school :) Weird how things make a comeback!
ReplyDelete@Heidi it took me so long to get on the capri bandwagon too...and bermuda shorts...and knee-high boots. I'm not what you would call an early adopter!
Sounds awesome! You may have just talked me into going out and buying some to wear with longer sweaters in the fall...
