A Little Sparkle
Tuesday, December 04, 2012I've been making my Christmas list (STAY TUNED!) and there's a common thread: almost everything that catches my eye these days has a little sparkle. And I would not generally consider myself an overly "sparkly" person.
Case in point:
this sweater.
This scarf.
This nail polish.
I recently bought this skirt on a ridiculous whim. ($29 is quite the splurge for the Queen of Cheap, especially when it comes to something as impractical as a sequined black miniskirt, which I need like a hole in the head.)

I can't explain what's triggering this sudden urge for all things sparkly and girly. An overabundance of holiday spirit, an attempt to go all-out glitzy after a year of leggings and t-shirts, a desperate and sad attempt to hold onto my childhood or to inject a little glamour into my life...I just don't know.
Even glittery reindeer ornaments are starting to look appealing. GLITTER REINDEER!
I'm going to try to rein it in before I make any big mistakes.
AHEM.
In the meantime, I'll be painting my nails gold and wearing my sequins to our company Christmas party. It just so happens to be an Ugly Christmas Sweater party.
Ugly Christmas Sweater on top, sequins on the bottom. IT DOESN'T GET MORE FESTIVE THAN THAT.

I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE GOING THROUGH. This is happening to me right now too and I don't understand it either. I bought a bottle of Martha Stewart glitter that was on clearance for some random crafts and suddenly I'm all: (http://cdn.memegenerator.net/instances/400x/27190125.jpg). Specifically glittery gold polka dots. On every single item of clothing I own. Ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteBe strong. I'm hoping after the holidays I will gently revert back to my usual state of NOT being attracted to things that look like they belong in a Lisa Frank treasure chest.
It's got to be a holiday phenomenon. Glitter seems like such a good idea right now. It's so effing messy too.
DeleteI made these last Christmas if you're looking for a use for your Martha sparkles. SO easy to do: http://theornamentgirl.com/blog/being-crafty/how-to-make-glitter-christmas-ornaments-diy/
You're the mother of a happy, healthy 13 month old who growth spurted and screamed through his first Christmas last year. You deserve to want the sparkles; you deserve to wear them. Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteWOO! Sparkles for mama!
DeleteI just pictured you wearing the sequin skirt, the ugly sweater, the sparkly scarf and the glittery nails to your Christmas party and I laughed.
ReplyDeleteI totally get your recent obsession with all that glitters... I feel it too, but it's just the Holidays. Last year I felt the same way so I bought everything shiny. When the New Year celebrations were over, I was beyond over it! Then again, those cute Peter Pan collars are a nice way to dress up an drab outfit anytime of year! Love them!
I need to keep this in mind. Hold off until after the holidays and do not go overboard on the sparkles!
Deletelove it, you just cant go wrong with glitter!
ReplyDeletedefinitely need a little glitter in my life this time of year :)
ReplyDeleteJoe Fresh has some sparkly happening...
ReplyDeleteI was in the Joe Howe Superstore on Saturday, aka Joe Fresh central. I had to walk away. There was so much stuff I wanted. (Well...I did get one new nail polish as per my newest post) :)
DeleteI commented on your skirt on le Instagram, but I love sparkly! I got a couple tank tops that are sparkly and they were pretty inexpensive. A great way to jazz up any outfit.
ReplyDeletePS, I like the blog re-design!
I haven't worn the skirt yet (shocker) but with the holidays coming I hope to have some opportunities. I will wear it to Christmas Eve church if all else fails. Spice it up a bit!
DeleteAnd thanks, I don't have any designy skills to speak of but changing the font, bg colour and header help to freshen things up around here!
