2!
Tuesday, November 12, 2013Your second birthday was cloudy and drizzly, a lot like the day you were born. You came downstairs and were greeted by a new train set (which you were thrilled about) and some new clothes (less thrilled). You ate Mickey Mouse-shaped waffles for your birthday breakfast and put on your "I Am 2" shirt, in case anyone wasn't sure why the house was full of balloons and tissue paper.
You spent the day with your grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, eating pizza and blowing out the candles on your truck cake. You were pretty good about sharing, minus one "Hey! Gimme that!" incident with Payton.
After your guests had gone home, you finally crashed for a nap, and before bed, you insisted on us singing you the Happy Birthday song again...and again...and again. "One more time! One more time, please!"
At 2, you are a slim little guy, with shaggy hair that needs to be cut, big brown eyes, and a mischievous grin. You talk - a LOT. You love trains, trucks, and diggers, anything that goes. You love to read and to build with blocks, and you adore animals. Goldfish crackers, yogurt, and bananas are your favourite snacks, especially when the bananas are eaten "like a monkey in a tree", aka with the peel still on. You like bath time, hate brushing your teeth. You love playing outside. You can count to 14, you've allllmost got your ABCs down, and you talk big game about using the potty but have yet to actually do it. You're easygoing, a happy kid - you rarely cry. You don't have a shy bone in your body. You take your time no matter what you're doing, sometimes to the point of aggravation, like when it takes us eight minutes to come downstairs because you have to stop on every step to read another page in your book.
Your sitter commented the other day about how kind you are, always quick to comfort one of the other kids if they're upset. She said you're going to make a good husband someday. I hope you stay just the way you are now: funny, compassionate, and curious. I wish I could be more like you: laid back, no worries, marching to your own drummer. Happy #2, little man. You have made the past two years an absolute joy.
