10 To-Dos in June

Thursday, June 07, 2012

Inspired by Mama Kat's Writer's Workshop, here are 10 things I want to do this month.

1. Do a bunch of yard work: Get mulch for the flower beds. Put the pot lights out for the neighbourhood delinquents to steal. Set up the fire pit and swing. Celebrate by having a fire in said fire pit.
2. Plan a successful first Father's Day. What are the determinants of a "successful" Father's Day? Bacon will be consumed, we'll have a family outing sans baby meltdown, and ideally, we'll be able to find a card with a sentiment that results in misty eyes if not actual tears.
3. Get my knee fixed. My physiotherapy assessment is today - fingers crossed I'll be able to run pain-free rull soon.
4. Avoid online shopping. In the past week I've ordered a cross-stitch pattern from Etsy, two bathing suits and a living room rug. Can't be tamed. My Visa is curled up in the fetal position in the corner.
5. Bake something rhubarb-y. Strawberry rhubarb pie, perhaps. Did you know rhubarb is A VEGETABLE? Percolate on that for a second.
6. Eat spring rolls. I have been craving them for a couple days now. Maaaaybe today? P.S. I love that eating a particular food is on my to-do list. I obviously need more hobbies.
7. Schedule a family photo shoot. Practice cheesy smile.
8. Have my morning coffee on the deck. This will be a lot easier when it's not minus one billion degrees outside. WTF June?
9. Firm up our summer vacation plans. We had been thinking a week at the cottage, but now we're wondering if that would be a nuisance with the baby. A full week is a long time for little man to be sleeping in a playpen. So maybe a couple long weekends away instead? Or should we just do the cottage thing? Has anyone traveled with a 7-8 month old baby? How heinous is it, really?
10. Go to the dang dentist already. I was due for an appointment in January. What?

  1. We're having our first Father's Day too. I'm so thankful there's a Star Wars exhibit nearby, it was all set up for me :) I hope yours goes great as well.

    1. I can't spill the Father's Day beans here, since papa bear reads this blog, but I have my fingers crossed ours goes well too! A Star Wars exhibit sounds perfect!

  2. I have travelled with a baby, I highly recommend somewhere nice and warm like the Florida Keys (but not in summer) they crawl in the sand, chill in the Bay of Mexico and go to bed while you have a pina colada on the balconey) its fabulous! dont be scared of the flight either, its ok, I used to do a 9 hour one from the UK to get my fix.

    1. I've already started planting the seeds for a Florida trip next spring! Sounds like such a nice way to escape the winter.

  3. Topher was a great traveller at that age - he didn't mind sleeping in his pack and play as long as he had his blankie and stuffed elephant with him. Camping with a baby, though? HORRIBLE. (And he was just over a year when we tried that!)

    1. Ohhh camping with a baby sounds like a nightmare! I love camping but Eli will be a couple years old before we attempt that. And that'll probably be after a few trial runs with the tent in the yard! But you were very brave to try!

  4. With our first baby, we didn't do much travelling until he was over a year, but with our second baby, we were camping when she was 4 weeks old. I think I was insanely sleep deprived to agree to that trip!

    1. I love to camp but I don't think we're ready for that yet and Eli is 7 months now! You are a brave lady!

  5. We've traveled with Charlie almost every month since he was born (he's 8 mos) and he does great sleeping in his pack and play. We got a quilted sheet for it and make sure we bring his sound machine and lovey and all that. He'll do great whatever you guys do!

    1. We were away this weekend - Eli did great in the pack and play the first night but the second night was a disaster. He thumped his feet from 4-5:30am and then decided it was time to get up for the day :S
