Eli is one!

On Saturday, Eli turned one. We woke up, got him dressed in his "Happy Birthday to Me!" shirt, and brought him downstairs to open his presents: a new wagon, some (much needed) new outfits, Superman PJs, a chatter phone, and some drawings, handcrafted by his dad. His grandparents, aunts, uncles and baby cousin Payton arrived after lunch and stayed all afternoon to celebrate. We capped off the day with cupcakes and Eli thoroughly enjoyed his first sugar rush and the subsequent crash afterward.

Sunday was his "official" birthday party and we celebrated with friends big and small. Eli loved seeing everybody and had his second piece of cake, which he ate no-hands style. This week he's going through sugar detox.

We kept things pretty simple and low-key for Eli's big day, and I'm happy we did. We didn't go too crazy with the decorations and the partying, just sticking to some nice bright colours, plain old balloons, a homemade banner and a poster I printed from my Instagrams over the past year. I made cupcakes from a mix. We wanted to focus on Eli, not going crazy with the party preparations.

I think our little man had a ball, greeting everybody, showing off his new walking skills for his grandparents, and opening presents, aka taking one piece of tissue paper out of each bag before taking off to do something else.

Our wee man is now a year old, weighs 22 pounds, has eight teeth, walks, dances, makes fart noises, and loves dogs. This age is crazy because you can actually see him learning new things every day. From one day to the next, you can see an improvement in his walking, you notice him making an entirely new noise or trying to say a new word or just doing some new thing. It's incredible to watch.

He's still the happiest guy around and my birthday wish for him is that he'll always stay so happy.

  1. So cute! Happy birthday Eli!!! Sounds like his birthday was perfect! And can I just say it's refreshing to see someone not obsessed over going all Martha Stewart for a baby's birthday party... so not the point.

    1. I pinned so many cute birthday party ideas on Pinterest but in the end we just kept it simple and all about Eli. I figured he's too little to really appreciate or even notice over the top crafting and cooking and there'll be many more years to go crazy with the parties! He was happiest just seeing all his relatives and friends.

  5. So, it's official. I have baby fever and it's here to stay... This is an adorable post. I love watching my sisters children grow, and I can only imagine how special it is when they are your own! I think I'll be jumping on the baby band wagon soon!
