five rules for (what's left of) September
Tuesday, September 03, 2013
1. run more
2. cook more
3. eat cleaner
4. create more
5. spend less
September is all about getting back into the swing of things, isn't it? Picking up routines that maybe went a little sideways over the summer. Getting your proverbial house in order. Leaving earlier in the morning to account for school traffic. Going to bed a little earlier at night.
It's still summer, and it's still going to be summer for another 18 more days - people who claim fall starts on September 1, or on the day after Labour Day, are horrible people, full stop.
But there's something about this time of year that feels transition-y. Like it's a good time to pull up your socks and get down to biznass.

This September, getting my act together is priority number one. This summer I've been busy, but lazy. Busy making memories, busy having fun. Lazy about things like cooking dinners and taking care of myself and budgeting. July and August passed in a treat-yo-self blur. September is time to slow that roll.
So hence my rules for September: make more time for things like long runs and cooking meals. Spend more time creating, whether it be an actual craft, a DIY project around the house, or a beautifully organized kitchen cupboard - the key is, more time actually DOING, less time passing time. Spend less money. Eat better: this is the best time of year to eat local, with all sorts of goodies in season. There's no reason not to.

What are your goals for the new month?

For me, September will also be about cleaning up my act. I just asserted myself at work, putting the brakes on three weeks (home on weekends) of work-related travel just before our wedding, so while I just made my monthly resolutions last night, I am doing okay with them thus far!

Nice job minimizing the work travel. Definitely don't need that leading up to your wedding!
DeleteThe usual - meal planning, pickling veggies, sinking into a few new exciting TV shows... I'm actually really looking forward to it. This morning I really felt as though Summer was gone gone gone... Post to come!

I'm pretty excited for fall TV, not gonna lie. It's been all Big Brother all summer for us!
DeleteWell, I'm going to be participating in the Whole Life Challenge soon (https://www.wholelifechallenge.com/) so meal planning to the nines, exercising more, and taking some time to relax at some point. Though summer was awesome, I feel like it was gogogo. I also feel like I spent to much money, and I was lax with my diet and exercise regimen. So getting back on track!
ReplyDeleteSounds a lot like how I'm feeling! Good luck with the challenge!
