Confession time. I'm not a huge fan of 'weekend summary' posts.

You went to Costco, cleaned your house, and saw a movie? HOW FASCINATING!

Run, don't walk, to the nearest computer posthaste and get that shit up on the Internet pronto because the people need to know!


This weekend was not a particularly thrilling one, but guess what? I've become pretty fond of our little weekends which manage to be uneventful but busy at the same time. Friday, Saturday and Sunday used to be reserved for binge drinking and stupid decisions and I'd need the week to recover from the weekend. In my old age, things have reversed and the weekend has become time to recharge and recover after a busy week. 

Friday night we had pizza and watched a movie at home. We always have pizza Fridays and I look forward to it every single week. That, and a glass of wine the size of my skull. Best low-key way to cap off a week. P.S. PKNT Shiraz - get it girl.



This was one of the rare Saturdays when Peter had to work, so it was just me and Eli at home for most of the day. We (I) cleaned the house and then we (we) played in the snow and baked ginger molasses cookies. 

Eli shares my feelings about winter weather: a big 'meh'. He doesn't enjoy being bundled up, but he tolerates it. When we go outside, he doesn't walk or run around in the snow. He stands still and looks around until he gets tired, and then he sits down and doesn't move until it's time to go inside and eats snow off his mittens.



After Peter got home I ran errands and went to the gym. I wasn't feeling the gym so it was a bit of an ADHD workout alternating cardio and strength intervals. Mixing it up so often helped the time fly by. 

Saturday night we hit the couch for the first hockey game of the season. I haven't missed hockey during the lockout but was looking forward to seeing the Leafs dominate the Canadiens. 

Sunday morning I did my "long run" for the week. Saying seven miles is "long" makes me feel out of shape. If I were running a half marathon, I'd only be about half done. If I were doing a full, I'd be a little more than a quarter done!

Sunday afternoon involved a Starbucks mocha, a family walk around the neighbourhood, and baking a birthday cake for Peter's big 3-2. We capped off the weekend with a Patriots loss. WAAAH.

So that's a typical weekend for us - a lot of family time, checking off some to-dos and catching up on much-needed rest. Exciting, no. Makes me smile? A thousand times in a 48-hour period. I love our weekends.

  1. Ooo, I'll have to try that shiraz. Loves me some shiraz. Sounds like you had a lovely weekend with the fam. I de-cluttered my apartment this weekend and it felt fantastic, I've got a bit more to do but not much. I'm having a hard time letting go of my array of beauty products (of which I use only a select few). Wahh. Haha, have a great week!

  2. I rarely blog about my weekends because they're pretty lame. We get groceries, we clean the house, sometimes Topher and I go to Michaels. Not exactly epic. We did watch hockey on Sunday night, though - even Topher wore his Oilers jersey for the occasion (and cried when we took it off at bedtime!) I didn't miss hockey much during the lockout, especially since Nathan watched as many of the AHL games as he could.

    1. I feel the same writing about my weekends. I guess I like reading other people's accounts of their weekends. I just assume no one cares to read about me going to Superstore and the gym! I didn't miss hockey much when it wasn't on but it was fun watching the Leafs again!

  3. Oh I so feel you on that reversal. At 27, I am more than happy to just luxuriate in a couple of days with few obligations. No parties to drag my ass out in the cold to, no horrible hangovers and maybe a workout and a brunch and I am a very content little woman.

    1. There is nothing better than waking up on Saturday and Sunday mornings (MORNINGS, not afternoons) and not having to crawl for the Advil and Gatorade. The fact that I can't have more than three drinks without a two-day hangover anymore is pretty good incentive to keep it low-key.

Funny, I rarely go out/drink anymore.. but another portion of last weekend was randomly acting like a college kid, (I've got a few friends that ARE actually 'older' college kids), going to a beer night and dancing the night away. The bar we ended up at made me feel about 100. I had what I like to call a "delayed" hangover on Sunday, as I felt fine most of the day but suddenly around supper I felt like garbage. Ohh to be 31.

  4. At 37 I am going through a stage (called it panic) where I want my weekends to be full of drinking, being out all night and bad decisions again. I have had too many years now of calm, peace and recharging, Must be a midlife crisis. Unfortunately I cant do much of the above but can dream. I liked reading about your weekend!!! And 7 miles to me is long, I have been building up my running and can now fo 3km, thats terrible really

    1. I have weekends like that too! Sadly it's harder and harder to find people to go out and be debaucherous with when the urge does strike so luckily it doesn't happen tooooo often these days.

      3km is awesome, the key is just to build up your mileage slow and steady! Are you using a plan or an app? There are some really good 5k apps online and once you can do 5 adding it up gets easier and easier!
