Mother's Day

Last Mother's Day I was not quite four months pregnant. We had just spilled the beans to our families and friends about our little womb-dweller a couple of weeks earlier,  but it still didn't feel like anything had changed. I wasn't feeling the baby move, and I hadn't gotten huge yet, so at that point it just felt like I had been sober for a very long time for no apparent reason.

Yesterday was my first "real" Mother's Day, and it was fantastic from start to finish. There was a lot of cuddling with my little man. There was breakfast in bed and a trip to the greenhouse to get some flowers for our flower beds and a hyndrangea bush. We barbecued for lunch, and spread out a blanket on the grass and let Eli hang out on it. He had a ball just sitting in the sun and touching the grass. We went for a walk and after the baby was tucked into bed, Pete and I had a glass of wine and watched Bridesmaids. I called my mom to wish her a happy Mother's Day. The boys gave me adorable cards and a new spring bag.

There was also a photo shoot. Eli dressed up for the occasion in his best linen suit and his jaunty cap. We changed his clothes after about 45 minutes because the best way to get a baby to have a blowout situation is to put white pants on him, we all know that.

This is probably my favourite picture of all time. He's "singing" and as you can see by his face it's very loud and expressive. I wish there was audio for this picture. It was a very loud and dramatic "UNNNNNNNNNNHHHHHHH"

Being a parent is crazy hard. Having a beautiful, healthy baby boy and a supportive and sweet husband makes it easier, but being treated like a queen for a day certainly doesn't hurt and I feel lucky and blessed to have both of my boys.

Notice the dog in the background. That's a ball with a tongue attached. I have been trying for almost a year to get a picture of him with the tongue hanging out of his mouth. Photobomb = success!
