Inspired by Thought Catalog's post yesterday, here are 15 things I need from March. Take heed, March, I'm coming for ya.

1. Our passports to fiiiiinally arrive so we can book a vacation for April. Sun, sand, surf STAT.
2. To stop being a gluttonous animal when I get home from work. By 5pm I'm so hungry I get home and actually start going through the fridge and cupboards eating handfuls of whatever I can get my mitts on and it's disgusting. I think I've finally figured out where I'm going wrong with my eating during the day, so hopefully I'll have this in check.
3. More sun. Sup, daylight savings.
4. Less snow. It's March - you can stop with that any time now.
5. More runs outside. Dreadmill season, it's time to GTFO. Just let me be able to navigate the neighbourhood without falling on a patch of ice and shattering my brittle bones.
6. To make a decision about my hair. My bangs are way past "needs a trim" status and are just downright belligerent now. I need to choose: grow them out or cut them one more time? I don't know if I'm up for dealing with sweaty, greasy bangs over the summer. But I feel like the more of my face that's covered by hair, the less sunscreen I'll need? I don't know.
7. No more colds for Eli. Little snuffaluffagus is on #4 of the winter right now, and that seems like more of his fair share. A bit less mucus would be great.
8. To win one basketball game. Just one. It doesn't even need to be a blowout.
9. To be able to wear shoes that aren't boots and a coat that isn't made of wool or stuffed with duck feathers. I don't want to be able to go coatless and in sandals. That's just silly. But a couple days of just putting on flats and a denim jacket, would that be too much to ask?
10. A bouquet of tulips. This is the first item on this list that's actually likely to happen, because I'm probably going to buy some today.
11. New music on my ipod. I've been back on Jay-Z's greatest hits this week, which is fine and dandy, but it feels like a long time since any good new albums have been released.

I guess my list is going to consist of 11 things, not 15, because I just ran out of steam and Eli woke up from his nap.

What do you hope to get out of March this year?

Last night, I had a basketball game at 7:00, so rather than going home after work and rushing back into the city, I stayed in town. I worked until a bit after 5:00, then realized I had an hour and a half to kill, by myself, before I had to be at the school to play. It was one of those spur-of-the-moment instances, so texting a friend to hang out was not really an option - the time was mine to do whatever I wanted.

It's not a huge amount of time, but it's 90 minutes. 90 minutes that don't involve cooking food, cleaning up, working, doing chores, or operating on anyone else's schedule but mine.

90 minutes of freedom, something I very rarely get to indulge in.

And I could not decide what to do with myself.

I debated doing lots of things. Go to the gym? Nah, I'd be getting a workout later (full court b-ball is no joke.) Go shopping? Nope, trying to save my pennies. Go for a walk? In the north end after dark by myself? No thank you.

I did so much humming and hawing, I ended up only having time to get takeout sushi from the place downstairs, eat it at my desk while playing on the computer, get changed in the office, and head to the school for our game.

I wasted my whole 90 minutes.

Tragic.

I don't know when I'll get 90 minutes to myself again. It could be months! Next time, I'll have a list of ideas prepared.

Go to the bookstore or a library and just browse, or even bring my book from home and sit somewhere with comfy chairs and enjoy an hour and a half of uninterrupted reading.

Go somewhere for dinner, somewhere that is not located directly below my office, somewhere I wouldn't normally get a chance to eat. Sit at a table by myself and order whatever the hell I would like to eat.

Take a walk in a new neighbourhood. Take some photos. Enjoy the change of scenery.

If there's a movie I want to see that starts at 4:30, go see it, even if it means I have to go by myself. Eat popcorn for dinner.

Get my car washed. Try on a ridiculous outfit, even if I'm not buying. Get my nails done.

Just don't ever waste 90 precious minutes again.

Parenting forums are a fresh new torture method that have caused me many anxiety attacks. When Eli was a newborn, I'd read the newborn comment threads about baby development, and there were parents talking about how their three-week-olds were laughing out loud, sitting up, rolling over and doing all sorts of crazy tricks.
